With advances in room acoustics, test equipment simulation and signal processing, it is possible to conduct noise measurements indoors with a high degree of accuracy. IAC has been at the forefront of providing acoustic testing facilities to the automotive market. With over 70 years of experience, IAC Acoustics has lead the way through innovation and were the first company to introduce a metal-clad anechoic wedge for use in NVH testing facilities.
Vehicle Semi-Anechoic Chambers (VSACs) are typically used for the measurement of inner and outer noise & vibration of a car with 2WD or 4WD, typically during run-up and coast down and at constant speeds, including the measurement of intake and exhaust, engine compartment, steering wheel and seat rail vibrations. All VSACs supplied by IAC Acoustics meet the technical compliance of international standards including ISO 3744 and ISO 3745.
VSAC chambers may also be used for carrying out measurements of powertrain mountings (engine vibration, and vibration transfer across mounts), noise source location (acoustic intensity) and operational deflection shapes identification, structure-borne transfer path analysis from powertrain mounts and other components and measurement of engine power characteristics. IAC Acoustics has designed and installed hundreds of VSACs across the world to various specifications including some of the largest facilities ever made.
VSACs are typically designed with a 50Hz cut-off frequency using IAC Acoustics Metadyne® anechoic wedges which provide both 0.99 absorption whilst being rugged enough to stand the test of time in an industrial testing environment. Many of the original 25+ year old chambers where a foam or fibreglass wedge systems are now in need of refurbishment and rather than a like for like replacement many clients are selecting the perforated metal option, contact IAC for your refurbishment needs.
